Start with the carton
Good wine freight starts before pickup. Carton strength, dividers and glue quality matter because wine may pass through both human and automated handling.
Cages can reduce handling risk.
Fleurieu Logistics uses cages for suitable wine movements. For the right job, cages can be pre-delivered so cartons are protected before collection and do not need to be wrapped.
Use cartons strong enough for stacked handling, not only cellar-door display.
Keep dividers between bottles so glass cannot knock against glass in transit.
Check the carton glue, tape and base strength before the freight leaves site.
For palletised freight, wrap to the pallet itself so the load moves as one unit.
Secure freight before it travels
The same care applies beyond wine. Freight that is boxed, wrapped, strapped or palletised is easier to quote, safer to handle and less likely to be delayed.
Box it
Loose items are hard to quote and harder to protect. Cartons should close cleanly, carry the weight and be labelled.
Strap or wrap it
Pallets and skids should be secured so the freight, pallet and wrap travel together through handling points.
